Luckin Coffee Payday Best Day Promo

I'm starting to be a Luckin Coffee fan due to the many promotions that they have been running. Just had their Payday Best Day promo today with 2 cups of coffee at $8. Quite a good deal actually. Had an Yirgacheffe Latte (1 of their Black Cup series, i.e. special coffee) the other day, and tried an iced caramel macchiato on Friday. And yup I've already used that $0.99 promo previously. :)

They have many vouchers so honestly each cup of coffee is not expensive. Heh I can't get a kopi-o at $0.99 easily in town.

Considering the many varieties of coffee that they are offering, I would get to try different flavours and not get bored. This month it is the Iced Minty Coconut Latte but nope I didn't try that. I might do that over this weekend if I "run into" another Lukcin Coffee outlet. lol. Other than the varieties, the ease of ordering (before you reach that outlet) with a pick up, scan and go, makes it really convenient for those in a hurry. 

I like the non-coffee stuff that Luckin Coffee is offering too. The strawberry Daifuku is nice and soft, just a bit small - one mouthful type of treats. Oh well that is at least something to go with the coffee. 

With as many as like 60 outlets in Singapore, I guess Luckin is doing well here. Nope I am not paid in any way by them, but yup I would continue to use their promo vouchers. heh.

Sunset Grill & Pub (Seletar Airbase) - Hot Wings

Sunset Grill & Pub is located at an obscure part of the Seletar Airbase. Honestly speaking the cafe is very hard to find, but nonetheless it is quite famous for food-seekers of a particular type - hot wings.

Sunset Grill & Pub is not the most beautiful restaurant or that the ambiance is fantastic (unless you happen to like the army camp feel, with heavy smell of mosquito coils lingering in the air. So most folks do go there for the simple reason that they served very special spicy buffalo wings. The spicy buffalo wings have ratings from 1 - 10, to indicate their spiciness. Of course, they do offer wings with ratings beyond 10, all the way to 35. Folks who attempted wings beyond rating 30 will get certificates and a place on their wall of fame.

Actually, most people who tried wings rating 30 and beyond will end up in bed or worse the hospital, so please don't try. I'm perfectly fine with wings of ratings 3 or even 5. Their sauce for the wings had a certain pungent acidic taste, which led me to believe that they added other spicy ingredients other than chilli. Order for wings is at a minimum of 6 wings. Not my type of chicken wings, but everyone has their own version of 'taste' I suppose.

For those who want to get a bit of 'hotness' on their tongues and in their stomachs, here's the address of Sunset Grill & Pub - Republic of Singapore Flying Club, 140-B Piccadily, Seletar Airbase East Camp. Tel: 6482 0244. They are closed on Tuesday, and even on normal days Sunset Grill & Pub can be quite crowded, so go early if you want to.

Random Food Pics - White Dog Cafe

We had dinner once at the White Dog Cafe (Vivocity). The food were good and so was the view. It is quite nice dinning with a full view of Sentosa. I know that normally there would be a long queue (well, most Vivo restaurants have long queues) but we were lucky that day as we were pretty late and skipped past the evening crowd.

Here's some random pictures of the food from White Dog Cafe. First we had the duck / chicken salad. Not bad, but the chicken was slightly dry.

Next we had the seafood medley pasta. This was one of the better pasta, because of the very interesting sauce that they used. There were bits and pieces of dry shrimps in the sauce, and coupled with the garlic, it helped to mixed the flavours of the seafood with the pasta.

Here's the pork chop. Hmm normal pork chop that was above average, but well, normal for this price range.

Finally here's the beverages, with the Sentosa bridge as the backdrop of the photo. Generally I liked the use of cinnamon to serve as the stirrer for my cappuccino.

Generally the food at White Dog Cafe is not bad. The trick is to go after the evening crowd has left, and thus the chefs have more time to prepare your food properly.

My Type Restaurant - Eat According to Your Blood Type

We chanced upon this restaurant - 'My Type' when we passed by Shenton Way (Golden Shoe area) area on Saturday. The concept of eating food according to your blood type seemed interesting and so we popped into the shop.

They served us the food menu according to our blood types, and we ordered set meals for each type respectively, since we weren't sure what to expect. We had the soup which was alright. The bread were quite nicely baked, and according to the menu there was no wheat in the bread. I guess I was too engrossed reading the history of blood types to properly taste the food at that point.

It was thru' this dinning session that I learnt about the differences between blood types. For those who are interested, you can find more about blood types on Wiki.

Initially I thought the food would be bland, but surprise surprise the food actually tasted good! We had a lamb burger that was well seasoned and in large portions. We also had a turkey pizza with nicely baked crust, and turkey meat that were slightly burnt in order to provide that meaty flavour (well I liked it slightly burnt).

The other thing I liked about the restaurant was their drinks. They served us lemon grass, and ginger chilled drinks, that were very nicely blended and not too over-powering.

All in all, the meal cost about $40 for two, and I thought that is a decent price for a full meal at Shenton Way area.

Basil Alcove @ Fortune Centre, Middle Road

This nice french eatery is sited at a corner of the Fortune Centre, facing the junction of NAFA and Sunshine Plaza. Basil Alcove used to occupy a smaller location within the same building but has since shifted to this bigger corner.

When you are at Basil Alcove, try their duck dishes. We had this salad and duck appetizer ($12.60) which tasted great. We had already tried their pan fried duck earlier and so we ordered other main dishes instead.

While waiting for our main dishes to come, we had a pot of Earl Grey ($4.50). The pot comes with matching decorated cups that added a nice feel to the experience. Despite the eatery being touted as a no-frill dinning place, they had taken care to add some deco (i.e. the flower at the table).

We had poached salmon as one of the main dishes. The salmon is done just right, with the skin slightly crisp, while the fish meat is still succulent and not dry. I like the way they decorate the food that adds to the overall experience.

Here's a picture of my orange and shrimp pasta ($12.60). Not that well taken, but the food is tasty. There are quite a number of shrimps hidden underneath pasta covered with cheese.

The overall experience at Basil Alcove is good, except for the evening traffic noises that makes conversation difficult. However, for this kind of prices and the quality of food, the place is definitely worth a try.

Loving Hut @ Parklane: good vegan food

Today I had my dinner at Loving Hut, located at Parklane. The place serves good vegan food at quite reasonable prices. They had laksa, noodles, 'rainbow' friend rice... etc. The general deco is alright with two big LCD playing videos about vegan food, but there is lack of seats and I think at meal times it will be crowded.

A bowl of laksa costs $4.80, and the serving is pretty decent, with yummy gravy and ingredients that don't make the meal feel like it's a vegan meal at all. They added in mint leaves for the gravy, which gives it a unqiue flavour. Here's a picture of the laksa. For those interested in having healthy (yes, just skip the laksa and take other dishes), do give Loving Hut a try.

Souperlicious @ Suntec Tower 4 (opp. Carrefour)

Wondering what to eat for lunch is a daily choice, and for those who have worked around the same area for years, it can be a headache. So during one of the days when a few colleagues were wondering what to eat, I suggested we try out the Souperlicious (opposite Carrefour) at Suntec Tower 4. It was a relatively new set-up that replaced the Ben & Jerry.

I ordered a set, i.e. Golden Pumkin soup with a chicken half sandwich and some pasta that comes with lemon tea. Others ordered Beef Goulash & a shroomy mushroom soup. The pumpkin soup is nice but nothing extraordinarily fantastic. Similarly comments for the sandwich actually.

The portion is filling, and service is good (with the waiter helping us arrange the food and table) but the price tag is slightly on the higer end. Regular bowl of soup is about $5+ to $6.50, and the customer could add $3.90 for the half sandwich and lemon / peach tea. Overall, with GST, the cost of lunch for me was about $10.15. The good news is that a customer loyalty card is given, with a 'chop' for each $5 spent. 12 of these chops, i.e. $60, entitles you to a free set meal!

Mad Jack has an outlet @ Paradiz Centre

We were at Mad Jack @ Jalan Kayu sometime back, so when I saw this outlet opened at Paradiz Centre, I was quite surprised. Apparently they have a number of outlets, including 1 at Bukit Timah. Great job in the business expansion! The food is good, and that helps a lot I think.

Not sure if I've seen vegetarian options the last time, but yupz there are various choices for the vegetarians out there too.

We ordered lemon fish that comes with yummy mushroom rice, as well as this huge chicken pattie burger. With addition $2, it comes with another pattie, and that makes it a 4 pattie chicken burger! Heh heh heh. The chicken burger was great, with soft bread buns and patties that were very flavourful. The lemon fish was nice too, especially when the mushroom rice added some asian touch to the food.

The whole dinner for 2, plus drinks, cost about $28. This is slightly 'ex' for a casual dinner but considering the portion and location, it is reasonable.

Mad Jack Cafe @ Jalan Kayu

We had a great dinner at Mad Jack Cafe during one of the evenings. It was raining, and for some reason we didn't feel like eating prata despite being around Jalan Kayu.

The Mad Jack cafe is sited at the end of the shophouses, and there were some 'stalls' selling 2nd hand goods (I think) when we got there. We ordered a couple of items, a 'crazy chicken', garlic bread, apple pie + ice cream and drinks. The crazy chicken is fantastic! Lolz. I guess the name of 'crazy' fits the 'mad' cafe well.

The garlic bread is alright, and somewhat unique in taste. I like the apple pie with ice cream too. However I still think the chicken is best, partly cos' of having hot food in cool rainy weather. Overall a very satisfactory meal, and a good recommendation for something different from the prata.

The prices for the items are Garlic Bread $4.80, Crazy Chick $7.90, Apple Pie + Ice cream $4, and Earl Grey $2. With drinks, GST and service charge, the total damage is $23.

Deli Moroccan @ Bussorah / Arab Street

Singapore has a great variety of food, including those from our foreign friends who decided to set up shops here. There is this nice Moroccan foodstall located near Arab Street / Beach Road that has garnered quite a number of reviews. Early this year, I was introduced to their mint tea and chicken kebab, and I've been there a couple of times since then.

The actual location of the food place is at 30 Bussorah Street, very near the Masjid Sultan Mosque. The place is actually more well known for its tajine dishes. We ordered the tajine chicken with potatoes. The succulent chicken is well seasoned, and the sauce of the dish is very flavourful. We used the stew sauce as dip for the pitta bread. The size of the dish can be deceiving (i.e. appears small), because the actual amount of food is quite substantial.

Other than tajine chicken, we also ordered a chickpea and chicken stew type of dish (I forgot the name). This dish tastes normal, i.e. nothing that particularly special. I guess I would rather order their kebab instead (sorry no picture of kebab). However, the dish is quite filling, so for those who are hungry, it can be quite satisfying. I heard they offer cous cous as well, but I have yet to try it.

Their pitta bread is well... pitta bread. Lolz. Nonetheless, it is not that easy to find pitta bread in an affordable food places, and since I like bread in general, their pitta bread taste good! Dip it with the tajine sauces would be a good combination.

Another attractive offering by the place is their mint tea. Against the somewhat peaceful and cool atmosphere, sipping a pot of hot mint tea is an unique experience. The open-air dinning with a backdrop of mosque gives one a feeling that the dinning is not done in Singapore, i.e. an almost touristy feel to the whole dinning experience. I think I'll go back quite often. :)
