The Bear Pit

Also visited the Bear Pit in Bern. Seems like the name of the place, i.e. Berne, is named after the bear cos that is the first animal that some Duke killed a long long time ago during the founding of the place.

We reached the bear pit at 9.05am, only to realise that the bears are let out only at 930am...zzz... standing around in freezing cold temperature to wait for bears is not much fun. At 930am, the bears are out. One of them stepped out of the 'hole'... walked a bit... and walked over to the other hole where the other bear was kept. Seems like the first bear is making a wake up call to the other bear.

Some folks started cutting up apples and pears which they threw to the bears later. Here's the pics:

Among the two, this bear below is the smarter one. This bear would sit there and wait for the folks to throw the fruits for it, and catch the fruits as it was thrown. This it enjoyed a breakfast without having the need to walk around much.

Other pics I would put when I got a chance to transfer them over from the laptop... see when I'm free bah. :)

A Church in Bern (Saturday)

Was in Bern for work and I took some time to walk around the city / town. Nice place, quiet, and quite beautiful. Of course, the pace is not too fast, and not much activities actually I think. maybe cos' I can't read or speak German, and thus couldn't find enough interesting things to do... dunno.

Walked into a nice cathedral, which the guidebook said that it's called Munster. Interesting name. Cos' my digital camera battery ran out, thus i took some pictures using the handphone one instead. Here's the pics:

Then there is this big big organ ( I think) right at the back of the cathedral:

Of course, there are also nicely painted glass and statues:

Visited the cathedral on a Saturday. Saturday seems to be their market day, and right outside the church and as well as along many streets, there are a lot of people selling fresh products. The vegetables and fruits look really good and fresh. Maybe cos' of the weather there the veges can last longer I suppose. There is also a stall selling rabbit meat, and I saw a skinned rabbit hanging there... hmmm...

After a long break

heh... didn't blog for a long time cos a) no time, b) nothing new to blog about and c) was away in Switzerland for more than a week.

Now that I'm back and before work starts again, here's some blog entries. Was cooking tuna pasta sometime back cos' a friend passed me a bottle of tuna pasta sauce. Here's the results:

The instructions asked for milk which I don't have, and so I replaced it with cheese instead. Yupz I got a can of tuna, dolphin friendly de. The end result is that the pasta is a bit salty and not creamy enough. Still edible, not too bad but just quite lacking in flavour. next time I would follow instructions carefully. Cooked for three, portion wise is just nice I guess.
